“May God, Source of Hope, fill you with Joy and Peace through your endurance in Faith, so that your hope may increase by the power of the Holy Spirit”  (Romans 15:13)

Ever find yourself wondering what qualities you have, what qualities others see in you? The lists of qualities can be personality traits, and/or the best of human qualities. One quality that is rarely named is ENDURANCE.  Even the Scriptures use other words such as patience, perseverance, tolerance, long-suffering, and steadfastness.

The dictionary defines endurance as the quality, act, or power to withstand stress!
It is the capacity to carry on, to continue despite hardships, to have the ability to hold on, to be open to whatever comes our way.

We have a choice, to be hopeful in all that we are enduring.
We can accept the unchangeable.
We can adjust to the obstacles.
We can abide with patience.
We can affirm the Presence of God.
We can choose to embrace situations for the long haul. Often there are no assurances, no ways to understand, and many times, few if any choices.

A worthy companion with endurance is HOPE.
Our hope can build endurance.
Our hope is solidly grounded in the passion and resurrection of Jesus.
Our hope is strengthened whenever we reflect on the endurance of Jesus in His life experiences.

  1. Who are some persons that model hopeful endurance to me?
  2. What experiences of hopeful endurance are in my life?
  3. What is my capacity for hopeful endurance?
  4. How might my hopeful endurance make a difference in my family, my relationships, my country, the world?
