Creative Weekend: Journaling and Drum-Making Workshops
August 24-26, 2018
Tap into your creative spirit in this unique weekend offering. Sign up for one or both!
Friday, Aug. 24 (6 p.m.)- Saturday, Aug. 25 (1 p.m.)
Participants will have the opportunity to handcraft their own journals, utilizing a variety of materials, including beads, handcrafted paper, and items from nature. We will also explore practices of journaling, which includes telling our stories and journaling with guided meditations.
Journaling can be a path to our center, helping us grow in the Spirit, discover our true Self, heal, and co-create as we express our deepest feelings.
The Journal-Making Workshop will begin with Friday evening supper at 6 p.m. and will conclude with the noon meal on Saturday.
Rev. Tammy K. Barthels is an Ordained Minister with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). She is a wife, mother, grandmother, spiritual director, seeker of truth, and an affiliate with the Franciscan Sisters of Perpetual Adoration for 20 years. She welcomes the opportunity to share with others as we journey toward wholeness with God. She has been journaling for over 25 years.
Saturday, Aug. 25 (2 p.m.) to Sunday, Aug. 26 (1 p.m.)
Cost: $205 (13-inch drum) or $230 (16-inch drum)
The very steps involved in crafting the drum create a natural rhythm for reflection and reverence. We will weave prayer and deep listening into this process of giving voice to those expressions that are beyond words.
The Drum-Making Workshop begins at 2 p.m. on Saturday and will conclude with the noon meal on Sunday.
Wayne Manthey, drum-maker, feels that making personal frame drums is a journey that is individually and spiritually meaningful. The drum symbolizes the heartbeat of life, the heartbeat of community. It is a tool for cleansing and centering one’s intentions for the spiritual life.
