Icon Writing Workshop with Phil Zimmerman

October 14-20, 2018 | Cost: $650 (Commuters: $525)

Icon Writing is a meaningful prayer practice and an art form with rich, inspirational history. At this experiential retreat, each participant will “write” an icon of Yakhrom Mother of God. It is open to anyone interested, even those with no artistic experience. All materials and supplies are provided so that each person will have a beautifully completed icon varnished and ready to display at the end of the workshop. Only 15 spots available.

What is Icon Writing?

Icons are often described as being “written” rather than painted because they are meant to communicate the word of God and the
mysteries of God. Icons communicate Christian truths in a visible form. They have been handed down through history with very little variation and are written in much the same way as to the original.

Phil Zimmerman is a noted American iconographer who has created hundreds of religious icons for churches and private collectors throughout the world.

This workshop begins with Sunday supper at 6 p.m. and concludes by 10 a.m. on Saturday. The cost includes overnight accommodations, delicious buffet meals, all materials and supplies, and program fees.
