Next week we will be entering November, and depending on your focus, it is either time to focus on gratitude or time to focus on Christmas preparations.

Here at St. Anthony’s, this is most definitely the time to focus on gratitude. It is the season of our Annual Appeal. Each day, when the postal carrier delivers our mail, we are struck with awe and gratitude at the number of generous donors supporting our ministry through the annual appeal. It has only been about two weeks since we mailed our appeal letter, yet it seems every day we receive a good-size handful of blue and buff envelopes, representing the responses of some of our faithful supporters to our annual appeal letter. What is more amazing is that the stream of responses continues through the last two months of each year.

Like our Capuchin brothers before us, we rely on the support of so many people to keep this holy place open. Support comes in many forms: some include us in their prayers every day; some support us with their time and talent as volunteers; some support us by sharing their treasure monthly, quarterly, randomly throughout the year, or through our Annual Appeal; and some support us in all three ways. What we know and are reminded of frequently is we cannot do what we do without all of that support.

The Annual Appeal helps us with the day-to-day operating expenses that retreat fees just don’t cover. About one-third of our budget each year is covered by donations, and the largest portion of our donations comes through the Annual Appeal. This is not significantly different from the Capuchins’ budget prior to the transition, and we are blessed that so many have continued to show faith in the lay leadership, enabling us to continue this ministry through some significant challenges.

Even if you did not receive an Annual Appeal letter, you can still help us with our Annual Appeal. You can donate on Facebook at anytime, or participate in our Giving Tuesday Facebook fundraiser on Tuesday, November 29. You can donate anytime on our website, through the Donate button on our home page. You can call our office at 715-443-2236 and make a donation by credit card, or you can mail us a check to 300 E. 4th Street, Marathon, WI 54448. Whether your gift is $5 or $5,000, we are grateful for your support.

For the blessings of generous folks to support us in this season of gratitude and throughout the year, we say Deo Gratias!
