Another Tuesday brings another team gathering and meal.  This week’s purpose was to decorate the house for Christmas.  Candy, Marge and Tracy started the process on Saturday by getting the chapel ready for Advent, setting up the chapel Christmas tree, and placing assorted Nativity sets in the windows between the two front hallways.

On Tuesday morning, JustBob was responsible for picking up the tree donated by our friends at Schumacher’s Family Tree Nursery here in Marathon and putting it into its stand in the dining room.  While we were waiting for JustBob to finish, Marge and Adele set up the table decorations in the dining room and Hesse Lounge.  Meanwhile, Candy kept Jackie K., Sr. Barb, Jackie H., and Kim busy making decorations to scatter around the Center.  They created snowflakes made of paper bags and paper ornaments in the shape of balls and trees.

Once the tree was ready to decorate, Marge and Adele put the lights on and placed the angel on top.  After everyone took a break for pizza lunch (courtesy of Fr. Bob’s sister, Joyce), Jackie K, Marge and Adele adorned the tree with ornaments, poinsettia flowers and a ribbon for garland while Candy and the craft crew kept on working on their projects.   Flat Friar and his trusty sidekick, Donkey, kept a watchful eye over all the activity throughout the day and heartily approved of the finished product.

The dining room was not the only target of our energy.  A smaller tree adorns the front hall, complete with the paper ball ornaments made by the craft crew.  A lighted garland hangs over the doorway between the halls.  The gifts of Joy, Love and Peace wait nearby, representing our wish for all of our friends this holy season.

Many hands make light work, they say, and we find that to be true whether it is decorating the house for Christmas or welcoming guests for a retreat weekend.  Teamwork helps us do all that we do all year long.  Still, having a day like Tuesday to accomplish a goal together while enjoying the fellowship of our team members reminds us that it can be fun, too.

For all the blessings of teamwork – the accomplishments, the shared meal and the fellowship – we say Deo Gratias!
