With the many ways that we can follow the news, we come to realize that discerning what is true and what is not becomes a daunting challenge. We live in times when truth is often fleeting. We need some way to ground ourselves, so that we can discern what the truth is in our political life as well as in the other areas of our lives.
As Christians we need to become aware of the writings that give us the basis for our lives. We turn to the Bible as our guide, especially the New Testament. Pope Francis has recently declared that the Third Sunday of Ordinary Time should be dedicated to the Holy Word of God. Most families have a Bible in their home where they record significant events. The important question to ask ourselves is whether or not we are familiar enough with the Scriptures that they might lead us in ways to find the truth.
Our belief in Jesus Christ as both human and divine can lead us to the truth. God is revealed through Jesus Christ as a loving God, who cares for all humanity. Coming to know Jesus Christ is our way to come to know God. When we become familiar with the many stories that the four gospel writers, Matthew, Mark, Luke and John tell about Jesus, we can come to know that Jesus cared for all. He accepted all people and through his healing and his teaching he gave them knowledge of the Kingdom of God. He indicated that the kingdom was and is a part of the people. Jesus wanted to change very much how people thought about God. In all ways, he was concerned about the common good of all.
When we search for truth, it becomes apparent that we need to familiarize ourselves with Jesus Christ in all ways. We need to spend some time in reading the Scriptures and meditating on them. Making them a part of our prayer life is important. Only hearing Scriptures proclaimed during worship is not enough. We need more. Perhaps in these troubled times throughout the world, we will find hope in the truth revealed in Scriptures. God is with us always and when we come to know God, we come to know how we are to discern what is true and what is not.

Beautifully expressed and written! Thank you for inspiring my day and walk as a modern day Christian ~ I am grateful for the people and place of St. Anthony Spirituality Center. 🙏
Helen, thank you for the reminder of our Christian faith through the scriptures. It is most helpful in our present day to go back to the scriptures on the daily basis, which gives us the unconditional love we are granted. 🙂
How beautiful! This touched my soul today, in a very needed way. Thank you!
Thank you Helen! I have been experiencing grief this week re: some of the loveless things going on in our country; and all week long I have been saying to myself “Jesus is the truth, the way” – he is the love. Bless you for the reminder.
