One day recently as I was driving home from work and the refrain from the song “Center of My Life” kept repeating in my head. Like a mantra. I have learned that when this happens I do not brush it off because I know the Lord is trying to tell me something. I may not always know what that is but sometimes I do get the message.

Realizing that prayer time is not only about reciting prayers or asking for something, the best part is listening for the Lord’s response. We need to remember that unless we slow down, be still and listen we may not be able to hear what the Lord wants to tell us. Having a two way conversation with the Lord can be very rewarding, knowledgeable, emotional and a relief from our burdens.

The Lord is patient and waits for us, but sometimes even he can’t wait for us so he sends us a message. For me the message that day was the refrain, “O Lord, you are the center of my life: I will always praise you, I will always serve you, I will always keep you in my sight.” (by Paul Inwood © OCP)

As I meditated on these words I began to look at my life to see if I was really doing what the words said:

– I try to keep the Lord as the center of my life. I know when I do I am able to get through the day better than when I try to do it myself.

– I keep a gratitude journal so each evening I can write down two things that I was grateful for during the day. I have noticed the more I do this the more I am aware of what the Lord is showing me during the day and I am able to thank him at that moment.

– Someone told me once that interruptions during my day are not bad things but opportunities to serve the Lord through others. Sometimes it might be just listening to them and not to give any response back.

– Keeping the Lord in my sight has opened my eyes to wonderful moments.

Do you see the Lord in others? Do you see the Lord in nature? Do you see the Lord in your interruptions? Maybe it is time to slow down, be still and listen because the Lord wants to talk to you.
